Winstone’s Sherborne is where our story started…

We opened the doors to our light and airy bookshop in 2012, with the vision of creating a book-filled haven in the heart of the beautiful historic town of Sherborne, Dorset. More than ten years later, we have welcomed thousands of people through the doors of our shop and hosted some incredible events and festivals in our town and beyond.

With over 9000 titles in stock, our bookshop is bursting at the seams with fabulous reads for everyone. If you can’t find the book you're looking for, then our next-day ordering service (with access to over 500k titles) means we can have it ready for collection by lunchtime the following day.

We have a particular fondness for dogs (and are known to dish out a treat or two to well-behaved four-legged friends), we also have a small café serving divine coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and cold drinks. The whole team is passionate about books, and we love to make recommendations across all ages and genres. We are proud to stock a wide range of beautiful cards and gifts, many by local and emerging artists.

We love to support local book clubs. We are happy to provide recommendations and if you register your book club with us we can offer your members a discount off your selected title.

Meet the team

Wayne

Founder and owner, Wayne Winstone lends both his name and decades of bookselling experience to all three stores. Previously Children’s Books Director of Waterstones and Ottakar’s, Wayne brings passion and professionalism to the Winstone’s family of bookshops. Despite being in the trade for over thirty years, Wayne still gets excited when new books come through the doors.

“Reading for me is like food and drink - a sort of nourishment (but less chewy!). Looking back on what might be my favourite book is a moveable feast. Right now, I would say David Copperfield. The quality of the writing, the semi-biographical story, and Dickens’s humour all make it a masterpiece.”

  • Angela

Angela brings a wealth of experience working on bookshops and has a particular flair for creating beautiful displays of books, cards and stationery. Angela reads across a wide range of genres, with Romantasy being a current favourite.

  • Emma

  • Hazel
